Sola Oyinlola is the Chairman of Africa for Schlumberger and is also the company’s global head of sustainability and social responsibility, positions he has held since 2011. Prior to this he was the company’s vice president and treasurer. His expertise includes financing growth and global operations; assets and debt management; and corporate financing structure issues such as raising equity and shareholder distribution strategies. He is also experienced in managing investments, including the company’s employee pension and profit sharing funds, where he increased investment choices for employees and assured the performance and governance of funds.
He began his career in 1979 as a trainee in project finance for heavy engineering and infrastructure projects for ABB, based in Sweden. Sola subsequently worked for the Central Bank of Nigeria, based in Lagos. He joined Schlumberger in 1984, working in California, where he soon gained experience with the financial arrangements of all of the company’s business lines. He then held several increasingly senior financial management roles in locations including Houston, London, and Paris. In 1998, Sola was appointed general manager for the company’s operations in Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines, and from 2001 to 2006 was managing director of Schlumberger business in West Africa. In between he served as human resources director for Europe, CIS and Africa.
Sola has a BA in Accounting from the University of Ghana and an MBA from Stanford University Business School, United States. He is an honorary fellow of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists and a co-founder of the Petroleum Club of Lagos. He joined the board of the Schlumberger Foundation in 2006 and was appointed President in 2011. He has a passion for human capital and host community development, as evidenced by his participation in issues of economic development, inclusion, and mentoring in various countries where he has been resident.
